Soffio d'Arte: technique, creativity and hand-worked glass

Soffio d'Arte was founded in Bergamo in 1996 from the experience and creative vision of Damiano Ravasi. Every object is made by hand in his workshop, where the technique of lampworking meets a constant search for shapes, colours and details. The result is distinctive creations, never perfectly identical to one another and made to last.

Glass as a craft and as research

Damiano Ravasi began working glass at the age of fifteen. Since then he has built his craft through daily practice, observation and experimentation. In 1996 Soffio d'Arte was born: an independent workshop where technical knowledge does not limit creativity but allows it to take shape.

Knowing the material means knowing when it can be bent, stretched, blown and shaped. But it also means understanding when a form can be pushed further, when a colour can change the character of an object and when an idea deserves to become a new collection. It is this balance between craft and creative flair that defines Damiano's work.

A workshop, not a production line

Everything begins in the Bergamo workshop. It is not a factory and not an assembly line: it is a workshop where every object passes through Damiano's hands, from the first working to the final finishing.

On the bench sit glass tubes, tools, colour trials, pieces in progress and ideas still to be developed. It is a working space, but also a place for experimentation. Here the shop objects, the collections, the favours, the corporate gifts and the special projects all take shape. Even when a creation starts from an established model, hand-working introduces differences that make it unique.

The precision of lampworking

The heart of Damiano's work is the lampworking of borosilicate glass. The material is heated in the flame of a torch until it reaches the consistency needed to be shaped. At that moment precision, control and speed are essential: the glass is turned, drawn, blown and shaped before it hardens again.

There is no automation that replaces the gesture. The form depends on the maker's experience, on how the material responds and on the choices made at every step. Some collections may involve different techniques, glass types and finishes: each product page specifies the characteristics of the creation.

Technique is the starting point

Soffio d'Arte does not simply repeat familiar shapes. Damiano works on the relationship between proportion, transparency, solids, voids and colour, seeking solutions that make every object instantly recognisable.

Depending on the creation, colour can be part of the glass, applied afterwards or created through special finishes such as lustre colours. Every choice is made with the final result in mind: a rich tone, a reflection, a deeper surface or a contrast between elements. The collections arise precisely from this research and, in some cases, from working with designers and creatives who bring new ideas to translate into glass.

Differences are the signature of handwork

In a handmade creation there may be slight variations in shape, size or shade. These are not flaws: they are the sign that the object did not come from an industrial mould.

With Bomboniere Live, Damiano makes the favours right during weddings, first communions, confirmations and other events, letting guests watch each piece come to life. For companies he designs gifts and small custom supplies. Bespoke projects are assessed individually, based on technical feasibility and the workshop's availability.
